Tom Marx and Paul Cooperstein will help guide owners through the process at a special seminar held in conjunction with the 2011 SSA Annual Convention on October 12

San Rafael, CA – Tom Marx, CEO, and Paul Cooperstein, president, of Marx Group Advisors will present “Aspects of Buying/Selling a Small Business” on Wednesday October 12, 2011 at the Sanibel Harbour Marriott in Fort Myers, Fla. Their presentation is part of a special seminar on succession planning for aftermarket family businesses being held in conjunction with the 2011 Service Specialists AssociationAnnual Convention.

“The statistics show that 70 percent of all small- and mid-sized businesses never sell after they are put on the market,” said Marx. “Selling a business is not like selling a piece of real estate or any other type of asset. Our goal is to help attendees understand the unique aspects of selling a business to ensure a good outcome.”

The in-depth, 1½ hour session by Marx and Cooperstein, co-founders of Marx Group Advisors, is designed for small- and mid-sized owners who are thinking of selling their business and need to know the right way to prepare and follow through to successfully complete the sale of their business. Among many topics they will explore: paperwork and information needed before going to market, understanding tax returns and financials, how to value a business, how to sell using various techniques, the importance of financing, why using an intermediary makes sense and what to look for in a broker.
